Following on from our part 1 of the great coastal getaways around Irish we are delighted to bring you part two of this series. The summer weather appears to have finally arrived and nothing makes a summer escape quite like a visit to one of the hundreds of amazing beaches around Ireland.

In this post we will be looking at the West and Northwest and some of the most relaxing hotels in Sligo and Donegal.
Enniscrone Beach, Sligo
Although amazing any time of the year, the sleepy town of Enniscrone really comes alive into the summer months. During the day the hub of the activity will mostly like be on Enniscrone Beach. Almost 5km long of fine golden sand the beach is popular with body boarders, surfers and swimmers. It’s close proximity to the town itself means you’re never far from a choice of bars, cafes, restaurants or indeed alternative entertainment to help you get the most out of your visit.
Where to stay - Diamond Coast Hotel, Enniscrone
A real favourite for both family holidays and couples’ getaways, the Diamond Coast Hotel is situated right on the edge of the town backing onto Enniscrone beach. While it is a hotel to suit any stay it’s shear size make for a comfortable visit even at the busiest of times. Rosses Point Beach, Sligo
There is often a debate between fans of Strandhill beach and Rosses Point Beach over which is better. While the waves at Rosses Point Beach don’t quite match those at Standhill for surfing it is a perfect location for swimming, windsurfing and paddle boarding. There are big wave surfing opportunities close to Rosses Point Beach for experienced surfers or for spectators to enjoy. The beach is a short 14-minute drive from Sligo town and one of the more quieter locations, so don’t expect fairgrounds or amusements here.

Cloughglass Bay Beach, Donegal
A much more rugged and impressive landscape awaits you at Cloughglass. Two beaches can be found at Cloughglass in Donegal, both are small but spectacular. High rock formations either side allow for sheltered bathing and swimming, and adventure if you decide to explore the nearby hiking path. The surrounding area is quiet so come prepared, and if you fit the beach too busy you can travel a further north to Keadue Bay where you’ll have plenty of room.

Shrove Beach, Donegal,
Staying in Donegal and heading to the most northern peninsula in Ireland, Shrove Beach sits on the very eastern point of the beautiful Inishowen Peninsula. The peninsula itself offers an abundance of magnificent beaches with Tullagh Strand and Five Finger Strand the most well-known however the Blue Flag Shrove Beach is a quieter and more secluded alternative. It sits adjacent to two lighthouses, offering great photography opportunities but the serenity of the locality means your can have one of the most peaceful beach visits you could wish for.
