The summer is officially upon us and although schools won’t be closed for the holidays until the end of June there is never a better time than the present to begin to organise your summer break.
The weather is never a guarantee during an Irish summer, but when the sun does appear there is one place most of want to be, the beach. This is worth keeping in mind when booking your hotel break as there are few places you can go that offer freedom, activities, fresh air and fun without a cost.
To help we have looked at some of the best beaches around Ireland where you can spend time during your mini break and keep the whole family happy.
Donabate Beach, Dublin
When discussing Dublin beaches, the same four or five places often come up Malahide, Portmarnock, Dollymount Strand, Sandymount Strand and Killiney Strand are often mentioned most. However, if you’re willing to explore, North County Dublin has a selection of clean, spacious and often quiet beaches. Donabate Beach is longest in Dublin, providing you with plenty of space to relax, play and swim.
The Shoreline Hotel sits proud above Donabate Beach boasting a popular outdoor dining area with great views of the beach and the Irish Sea. The hotel is a fantastic destination for families due to its beach location, nearby Newbridge Demense and access to direct train to Dublin city.
Rosslare Beach, Wexford
The Blue Flag Rosslare Stand Beach is one of many great beaches in the county. While not as large as the neighbouring Curracloe Beach, Rosslare Strand is notable as it’s one of the sunniest areas of Ireland. Situated in Rosslare village the beach has been a popular tourist spot for over 100 years and has continued to maintain a high standard.
Talbot Hotel Wexford is located in Wexford town, and while it is a 20 minute drive to Rosslare Strand the hotel is an ever popular place to stay in Wexford for families. The Talbot Hotel Wexford offer a family friendly welcome with playgrounds and kids clubs available during holiday season.
Inch Beach, Kerry
One of the most famous beaches in Ireland due to its popularity with surfers and swimmers. The beach will catch the eye for anyone travelling to Dingle from the Killarney Region.
If you’re lucky enough to find yourself staying in the Dingle Benners Hotel we recommend a visit to Inch Beach. Just a 25min drive from Dingle town you’ll be feeling the sand between your toes before you’ve had time to let your breakfast settle.
Lahinch Beach, Lahinch, Co Clare
Another of country’s more popular spots for surfing, swimming or even a general day out. A beautiful beach in itself, one of it’s additional perks is it’s close proximity to surf shops, public toilets, car park and a selection of dining options which allow for a comfortable day long visit.
The highly rated Armada Hotel in Spanish Point is popular with many looking to make a splash but who also want to completely relax afterwards. The “Armada” itself is situated right next to Spanish Point beach, which is a fantastic alternative if you’re not in the mood for leaving the hotel’s vicinity.
