Here at  Supervalu getaway breaks, we want you to keep discovering the hidden gems Ireland has to offer. Galway is a beautiful county to visit and has something for everyone. Located on the west coast of Ireland, it offers breath-taking views of the Irish coast. Galway is the perfect place for a city break this mid-term or Easter break.  The City offers fabulous places to shop, wine, and dine while the surrounding areas are perfect for adventurers. You'll be spoilt for choice in Galway. It is one of our favourite Irish city breaks. There are so many beautiful sites to see and so many things to do. We’ve put together our top picks for a Galway getaway break.

Salthill Promenade

A walk along the promenade at Salthill is the perfect way to spend a morning. If you’re feeling brave you can jump off the peer and head for a refreshing sea swim. The views from the shore are always spectacular. Grab a coffee to warm up and breathe in the crisp fresh air before heading into the city and enjoying a bite to eat. We recommend heading to Dela, where you can get brunch from 9:30 am every day. After some delicious food, spend the afternoon enjoying a unique shopping experience.

Quay Street & the Latin Quarter

There are a wide variety of shops in Galway city. Whether you're after a high street bargain, a unique vintage piece, or a special Irish gift you will find it in Galway. You will find a lot of unique trinkets in The Latin Quarter, The Westend, and at Galway's lively outdoor market. For all your other shopping needs head to shop street. Wander down Quay Street and into a traditional Irish pub where you’re sure to find an excellent pint. There you’ll have a choice of restaurants and can get everything from pub grub to exquisite fine dining.

Connemara National Park & Visitor Centre

If you fancy leaving the city for a while, Connemara National Park is a must-see.  Connemara National Park is one of six national parks in Ireland. The National Park's Visitor Centre is located next to Letterfrack Village. There are many hiking trails that are not only for experienced hikers but for hikers of all abilities. Diamond Hill's bottom loop is a wonderful location to start. The National Park grounds and trails and all exhibits and audiovisual are free to see.

Take a day trip to the Aran Islands

The Aran Islands are a trio of stunning islands off the shore of Galway Bay. Taking a day trip to Inis Mór is one of the best things to do in Galway when the weather allows a visit. Inis Mór is the largest of the three Aran Islands. It is located northwest of Inis Meáin and Inis Orr, the other two Aran Islands. To get there, take the Inis Mór ferry via the Aran Island ferry service which runs from Rossaveel Harbour. Rent some bikes and spend the day cycling around the island and taking in the beauty of the Irish coast. Visit Seal Colony Viewpoint,  Dún Aonghasa and Poll na bPéist, aka the Wormhole. Don’t forget to leave yourself enough time to cycle back and catch the ferry back!
